Picunki is a light-hearted and creative online music game that allows players to compose music by dragging icons onto characters on the screen. The game is developed on the PICO-8 platform — a popular retro 8-bit fantasy console known for its compact pixel games and simple sound.
At the top of the screen, the game displays four characters with elongated, cylindrical shapes, round heads, and simple faces. Initially, they appear in dark grey, without any accessories, giving a neutral and empty feel. As the player begins to interact, each character gradually takes shape with different colours and accessories: from the pink serrated crown on the red character and the round brown hat of the humanoid character to the small round ears of the purple-grey character and the tilted metal bucket on the head of the wood-brown character.
Below is the control interface with 8 accessory slots, which play a central role in the gameplay. Players use the cursor (activated by the Z or X key) to select and attach accessories, thereby triggering different visual and auditory reactions. Each small selection contributes to a unique overall rhythm, making Picunki more like a musical toy than a typical game.
